“Could you melt my ring and create a smiley-face pendant top?”

The customer who contacted us had experienced great loss during the COVID-19 pandemic, losing both her mother and husband, while caring for other elderly family members. She shared her thoughts with us over LINE, and we are sharing part of her message here with her permission:
“I deeply resonate with Bijou de Famille’s spirit and think it’s wonderful! When life brings hardship, I want to live with a smile and teach my children to do the same. That’s why I wanted to create the smiley-face pendant top above—to never forget to smile, no matter the circumstances. Two years ago, during the pandemic, my mother and husband passed away within two weeks. Because of COVID-19, I couldn’t visit them in the hospital and only saw them after they had passed. I still feel a deep sense of loss. Currently, I’m caring for two relatives of my late husband in their 90s. I feel exhausted both physically and mentally.”
One of the rings to be melted had belonged to her late husband, who loved gold. Since she cannot wear rings while caregiving, she wanted a pendant top that is easy to wear, yet keeps her husband close to her heart.
For a customer whose daily life is limited, we finalized the design through multiple LINE conversations and phone consultations.

On the back, we engraved K24 and, at the customer’s request, a star mark.
The eight-pointed star represents a “star of hope” 🌟
After delivery to our customer in Hyogo Prefecture, she shared her heartfelt words:
“The smiley-face is so, so cute 😍‼️ The star engraved on the back is wonderful 😀! I am amazed by your craftsmanship, as many places cannot work with pure gold. The pendant top’s bail was made by melting my late husband’s ring. I can always feel him when I wear it. I am truly grateful for the beautiful work 😀. I was so happy I cried 😢‼️”
