Precision Resizing While Preserving the Inner Engraving【Mail-In Repair】

This time, we received a mail-in repair request from a customer living in Fukuoka City for a size increase of a BOUCHERON Quatre ring.

The Quatre collection is one of Boucheron’s iconic designs, combining multiple distinct motifs into a single ring.

Not only is it visually striking, but its structure is also extremely delicate—requiring a high level of technical skill when resizing.

Customer Request

The customer requested the following:

・ Increase the ring size by one size
・ Preserve the inner engraving as perfectly as possible

Boucheron engravings contain important information and sentiment, including the brand name, metal details, and serial number.

Depending on the resizing method, engravings can become faint or even disappear, making the choice of technique especially critical.

(If an engraving runs continuously around the entire inner circumference, part of it may inevitably be lost. In such cases, we can also offer re-engraving services.)

Why Resizing the Quatre Ring Is Challenging

The Quatre ring has several characteristics that make resizing particularly difficult:

・ Multiple materials and decorative elements integrated into one structure
・ Exterior seams that can easily become visible after resizing
・ Clear and deep engravings on the inside of the ring

Because of this, resizing is not as simple as “just making the ring larger.”

We carefully examined the resizing position, the additional metal to be inserted, and the welding method before proceeding.

Finished Result✨

The ring has been successfully resized by one size.

The front section shown in the image is the resized area.

You may notice that part of the textured pattern has slightly widened, reflecting the added material.

To achieve this, we inserted additional metal between existing engravings, allowing us to expand the ring while preserving the original markings.

Repair Details

For this repair, we carried out:

・ One-size increase while avoiding engraved areas
・ Structural adjustments to maintain design balance
・ Complete preservation of the original inner engraving

After delivering the finished ring, the customer kindly shared the following message:
