From Gunma to Osaka — Helping an Elderly Woman Who Could Not Travel Far

We are based in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, but we received a call from the fire department in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture☎

They asked us to cut a stainless-steel ring that could not be removed.

Both the local fire department and a local jeweler had tried, but neither could cut through it. The fire department spent about an hour, and the jewelry shop also tried for about an hour, but both had to give up.

The person wearing the ring was an elderly woman living in a nursing home, and it was difficult for her to travel a long distance. We also received a call from her family, who live in Kanagawa Prefecture, and after discussing with the nursing home staff, we decided to urgently travel to Sakai City, Osaka for an on-site ring removal.

Our store is usually closed on Tuesdays, but because it was an emergency, we headed to Osaka!

Arrival at the Facility

We brought our usual ring-cutting tool set, about 20 kg of tools packed into a backpack.

Some people’s fingers become swollen and painful because hospitals or fire departments tried to remove the ring in many ways. It looks truly painful. Depending on the type, cutting a stainless-steel ring takes about 20 minutes for a thin one, and about 40 minutes for a thicker one. During cutting, the jeweler must hold the tool firmly, almost like arm wrestling continuously, to prevent the rotating cutter from pulling their hand. For safety, we take short breaks during the process.

For this job, four blades were worn out. Because stainless steel is extremely hard, it puts a heavy strain on both the blades and the machine. Therefore, please understand that the cutting fee includes the cost of these consumables.

After 15 Minutes — Ring Successfully Cut

About 15 minutes after starting, the ring was completely cut! Relieved, the elderly woman soon fell asleep peacefully. Her family was contacted and expressed great joy. We were glad to have removed the source of their worry 😊

Later,we received a call from a staff member of the Sakai Fire Department:

Firefighter: “You really came all the way from Takasaki? How long did it take to cut?”
Our reply: “About 15 minutes.”
Firefighter: “That’s incredible skill. If we get another special ring case in Osaka, we’ll call LA CHOU CHOU.”
