[WARNING] The Last Resort! Cutting a Ring That Even the Fire Station Couldn’t Remove – From Fujisawa City
If your ring is stuck, please visit us before your finger gets worse from repeated attempts at the hospital or fire station.
[Caution: This post includes slightly graphic images of a swollen finger.]
Hello, this is LA CHOU CHOU.
A customer from Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture visited our store to have a stainless steel ring cut off.
They had already tried having it removed at both the hospital and the fire station, but neither could cut through it. During those attempts, their finger became severely swollen…
At first, they went to the hospital, where staff tried various methods for nearly two hours — but couldn’t cut the ring. Even after local anesthesia was applied, the ring still wouldn’t come off. Next, they went to the fire station, where firefighters worked for almost an hour — again, no success.
Finally, the firefighters searched online and found our shop. We received a direct inquiry from the Fujisawa Fire Department, asking if it was possible to cut the ring. When we confirmed that it was, the customer immediately contacted us and came in the same day — we happened to have one appointment slot open at 3:00 PM.
The Condition of the Finger⇩
We have cut many rings before, but this was the most swollen finger we’ve ever seen. It looked extremely painful, and the customer must have been very anxious.

They told us,
“I came here as my last resort because if this can’t be cut, I’ll need surgery.”
The ring had been stuck on their thumb for three days.
If your ring ever gets stuck and even the fire station can’t remove it, please avoid manipulating your finger too much and contact a professional as soon as possible.
The Cutting Process
To prevent injury, we first insert a thin protective plate between the finger and the ring. Being able to insert that plate is the first critical step — and thankfully, we managed to do it this time.
For stainless steel rings, the cutting process usually takes around 20 minutes for thin rings and up to 40 minutes for thicker ones. Since our jeweler works alone, we take short breaks during the process to ensure safety and precision. Cutting requires significant arm strength — it feels almost like an arm-wrestling match — so breaks are essential.

Because friction generates heat, we cool the ring with water throughout the process.

We also use specialized tools that have been modified and improved over time.
In this case, it took five cutting blades to complete the procedure. Stainless steel is 50 to 100 times harder than gold or platinum, so the tools wear down quickly. The cost of ring removal includes these tool replacement and wear expenses.

The customer said,
“I usually have a high pain tolerance, but this really hurts.”
Still, they endured it bravely — determined to finally be free from the pain.
Once again, if your ring (made of stainless steel, tungsten, or titanium) gets stuck and even the fire department can’t cut it off, please contact us as soon as possible!

Success — After 20 Minutes of Work
The ring was successfully cut!

As soon as it came off, the blood started circulating again, and they felt a warm sensation return to the finger. Our staff felt an enormous sense of relief — and so did the customer.
It wasn’t just the physical pain; being freed from the mental stress and fear meant a lot as well.

Many people get stuck rings from simply putting one on “for fun.”
It’s more common than you might think. While gold and platinum rings can usually be cut by hospitals or fire departments, stainless steel, tungsten, and titanium rings are much more difficult to cut —
and very few places have the tools or experience to do it safely.
These materials are popular, but before wearing such rings, make sure you know what material they’re made of — it can save you a lot of trouble later.
We regularly assist customers from all over Japan, and we also offer on-site visits to nursing homes and care facilities for ring removal.
If you have a stainless steel, tungsten, or titanium ring that won’t come off, don’t panic — our experienced jeweler will handle it safely and carefully.
